Subscriptions: New "Pay Now Only" Interaction Mode
We've updated our subscription engine to be more flexible. We've introduced a new way for customers to pay that doesn't require them to store a payment method. To make this clear, we now have two distinct Interaction Modes:
- Customer Payment Method (Default): The standard mode we've always used. It requires a saved payment method and charges automatically.
- Pay Now Only (New): Allows subscriptions to be created and confirmed without a saved payment method. This mode can be used by payment gateways that do not support stored customer payment methods.
Dashboard & UX Changes
- Subscription Plan Setup: When editing a Subscription Plan, you'll see a new toggle to choose between Customer Payment Method and Pay Now Only.
- Checkout Flow: For "Pay Now" plans, the ticket buyer will see the same payment form they would for other checkouts that do not trigger subscriptions. This also includes support for payment methods that are not supported for CPMs but are available for online checkouts.
- Activation of Draft Subscriptions: Activation happens automatically once the customer pays via the new "Confirm Subscription" button on their account page or through an internal flow on the subscription detail page in the dashboard.
Key Restrictions
- Activation: Draft "Pay Now" subscriptions must go through the checkout flow to become active. Not supported by status change cycles.
- Billing: No recurring billing since no payment method is stored on the subscription.
